Pharmaceuticals
Purity, reliability, and regulatory safety are among the key requirements for raw materials supplied to the pharmaceutical industry. Verbio life chemicals offers plant-based solutions in the form of phytosterols and glycerin, as well as olefin metathesis catalysts through our subsidiary XiMo, all of which meet the above criteria.
Phytosterols from Verbio life chemicals are obtained from GMO-free rapeseed oil and meet the high requirements for use as a building block in steroid synthesis. Glycerin serves as a versatile excipient in liquid and semi-solid formulations ranging from syrups and ointments to soft capsules. Modern olefin metathesis catalysts enable the targeted control of complex syntheses and thus make an important contribution to the efficient development of active ingredients in the pharmaceutical industry.
Our products for the pharmaceutical industry
In phytosterols, glycerin, and olefin metathesis catalysts (the latter supplied by our subsidiary XiMo), Verbio life chemicals offers three components that are specifically used in pharmaceutical active ingredients, excipients, and synthesis processes. They combine the highest quality with traceability, sustainability, and technological precision.
Steroids
In the pharmaceutical industry, phytosterols serve as precursors for a variety of steroids such as cortisone or testosterone. Complex steroid structures can be built up from plant sterols using specific conversion processes. Stereoselective metathesis catalysts facilitate efficient reaction steps, especially with functional groups. Glycerin is used as an excipient, solvent, or carrier in formulations.
Syntheses for the pharmaceutical industry
Selective catalysts are essential for the development of modern synthesis routes. Through our subsidiary XiMo, Verbio life chemicals offers catalysts that enable precise manipulation and utilization of carbon-carbon double bonds in synthesis. With the appropriate catalysts, the stereochemistry of double bonds can be specifically adjusted from >95 % Z to >95 % E configuration. Olefin metathesis can often simplify complicated synthesis routes and shorten them by several steps. Modern olefin metathesis can be applied with catalyst dosages below 100 ppm, under mild and resource-saving conditions, and in compliance with many aspects of "green" (eco-friendly) chemistry.
