Modern agriculture demands security of yield together with environmental responsibility. This calls for solutions that protect soil, water, and biodiversity. These solutions need to provide plants with an optimal supply of nutrients and protection against harmful organisms while, at the same time, using the minimum of active ingredients. Verbio life chemicals offers sustainable, plant-based raw materials for this purpose: firstly, the platform molecule 9-DAME, which specifically replaces classic intermediates in the synthesis of crop protection products; secondly, biogenic sulfur, which increases productivity as a plant nutrient and contributes to disease prevention as a plant-compatible active ingredient; and thirdly, phytosterol, which helps plants adapt to environmental stress. Customized olefin metathesis catalysts also support the development of environmentally friendly products. All of our components have the capacity to contribute to regenerative cropping systems and the reduction of CO2 emissions along the entire agricultural value chain.

Plant protection
9-DAME is used in plant protection products as a functional building block for modern products such as pheromones and other active ingredients that offer both high efficacy and environmental compatibility. Both products can be readily integrated into existing formulations and contribute to the formulation of environmentally friendly solutions.
Fertilizers
Sulfur is an essential plant nutrient that plays a vital role in plant growth and development. It supports soil fertility, increases yields, enhances product quality, and boosts nitrogen utilization. As a fertilizer, phytosterol activates plant defense mechanisms in response to drought stress. Among other benefits, it promotes root growth, giving the plant better access to water in the soil. Both products contribute to a more efficient and sustainable fertilization strategy in agriculture.
Solvents and adjuvants
In crop protection products, solvents are used to efficiently dissolve active ingredients in water, to distribute them evenly, and to ensure the stability of the formulation. The functional groups of 9-DAME make it suitable as a bio-based solvent that can also be reactively incorporated into the formulation if required. Adjuvants increase the efficiency of crop protection products by specifically improving the saturation, adhesion, and absorption of the active ingredients on the plant surface. As a readily available C10 component, 9-DAME is suitable for use as an adjuvant to promote distribution on leaf surfaces.
Syntheses in agricultural chemistry
Controlled chemical conversion is crucial in the development of new plant protection agents and components.
